The first Cross Fell Challenge, organised by the Rotary Club
of Appleby and the Rotary Club of Upper Eden, was completed
in the week 11-19 July 2009. Over £40,000 was raised to purchse
84 ShelterBoxes. See Report.
A ShelterBox camp is set up on the summit of Cross Fell for a week. Sponsors donating the
cost of a ShelterBox
(£490) spend one night in the camp. Sponsoring organisations nominate one person to spend a night in the camp.
Sponsors reach the camp by an easy 2 mile fell top walk along the Pennine Way. Dinner and breakfast is provided by top local chefs. Sponsors receive a completion certificate and commemorative jacket. A unique ShelterBox allocation number allows sponsors to trace their box. Cross Fell
Cross Fell is the highest mountain in the
Pennines, 2930ft. Snow has been known to lie on
its summit for
up to 140 days a year. The weather was so bad during the 2009 Challenge a tactical retreat was instigated.How to partake in the Cross Fell Challenge
Following the success of the first Cross Fell Challenge in 2009 we are interested in repeating the Challenge. No dates have yet been set but we are inviting individuals and organisations to register an interest in taking up a future Challenge. By registering an interest you will help us determine when a future Challenge can take place. We will acknowledge your interest, will keep you informed of future plans and will give you plenty of time to raise your sponsorship of £490. If your plans change you will not be obliged to take part.
